Private Event Space in Kansas City Crossroads — The Backyard at Border Brewing

Private Events at Border

The Backyard.
Your party.
Our patio.

Private events · Available year-round

A private event space in the heart of the Crossroads.

Border Brewing Company's outdoor patio — The Backyard — opens up for private bookings. Brick walls, mural backdrop, string lights, and a bar that pours everything we make. Whether you're throwing a bachelorette weekend, a wedding shower, a corporate offsite, or a birthday that needs more than a restaurant booth, the patio is yours for the night.

We keep the rules simple: pick your bar package, bring your own food (or use one of our preferred caterers), decorate however you want, and let us handle the pours.

What's included

How a private event booking works

01

Bar service, your way

Pick a cash bar (guests buy their own) or a hosted bar package built around your headcount and budget. Both options run with our standard tap list — beer, cider, seltzer, cocktails, and zero-proof.

02

Catering — flexible by design

We'll connect you with our preferred catering partners across BBQ, pizza, taco, and full-service caterers. Want to bring your own? Outside food is welcome. Border doesn't lock you into a kitchen.

03

The space itself

Outdoor patio with brick walls, mural-painted backdrop, string lighting, and seating that flexes from cocktail-style to seated dining. Walks straight into the taproom for indoor overflow.

04

Crossroads location

512 E 18th Street — walking distance from most downtown KC hotels, on the streetcar line, and surrounded by First Friday foot traffic. Easy ride-share, easy parking on side streets.

Perfect for

Whatever you're throwing.

The Backyard works for almost any private event. A few of the most common bookings:

Bachelor & Bachelorette Parties

Crossroads bar crawl, but you skip the crawl. Reserve the patio, build a bar package around what your group actually drinks, bring in food from anywhere — pizza, taco truck, BBQ — and own the space until the toast.

Wedding Showers & Rehearsal Dinners

Industrial brick, string lights, graffiti walls, and a mural backdrop that already does the work for your photos. Pair the patio with a tasting flight for guests and a beer flight gift for the couple.

Baby Showers & Family Parties

Dad-friendly without being a dive bar. Bring the kids, bring a cake, bring whoever — we open early on weekends and the patio is shaded by 3 PM. Non-alcoholic Baseline series means everyone's covered.

Private Corporate Events

Team offsites, client receptions, holiday parties, founder dinners. Wi-Fi on the patio, room for 50+ standing, and a rotating tap list that gives your guests something to talk about that isn't the slide deck.

Birthday Parties

Your friend group, the patio, and a tab. We handle the bar, you handle the playlist. Decorations welcome — the brick walls hold tape and string lights better than any rented venue.

Pop-Ups, Launches & Mixers

Product launches, gallery openings, supper clubs, networking nights. We share the Crossroads with First Fridays and we know what walk-in foot traffic looks like — bring the energy and we provide the room.

Common questions

Private events FAQ

How far in advance should I book?

Weekends fill 4–6 weeks out, especially in spring and fall. Weekday bookings are usually flexible 1–2 weeks ahead. The earlier you reach out, the easier it is to lock in your date.

What time can my event start?

Daytime events can start as early as 11 AM. Most evening events start between 5–7 PM. We'll work around our regular taproom hours and your guest count.

How many people fit?

The patio comfortably holds 50–60 standing or 35–40 seated. Combined with overflow into the taproom, we can host larger gatherings — let us know your headcount and we'll talk through layout.

Do you have a deposit?

Yes — we collect a deposit at booking to hold your date, with the balance due before or at the event. Specific deposit amount depends on event size and bar package; we'll lay it all out in your booking confirmation.

Can I bring decorations?

Absolutely. The brick walls hold string lights, banners, and small décor without damage. We just ask that you take everything down at the end of the night.

What about the weather?

The patio is partially covered. For full-rainout days, we can move your event into the taproom — we'll work with you on the call and the layout in advance.
